Let’s take an example, everyone has few delivery applications on our phones for groceries, food, medicines, shopping etc. Rather it has made it even more difficult to challenge the basics. But has it really challenged the status quo? I think not. We can send more information, faster and through multiple depictions. To put it bluntly, technology has helped us to do the same things we did earlier in lesser time and helped us to store more information. But every time I give it a thought, I can only think of technological improvements are only the once that come to mind. Why is medical education so expensive and not subsidized? Don’t we need more doctors, engineers who have innovative/ imaginative minds who can pre-empt situations? Why is discovery of penicillin the only biological discovery known to us, despite it being nearly 100 years old. I mean why is the government funding globally more inclined than towards liberal arts and social initiatives than scientific research. WiFi, broader highways, bigger social security nets and lower taxes can be the only points of discussion.īut calamity, like the one we are facing right now, put a lot of things in perspective. Food, water, electricity, education even phones are problems of the past for many countries. Enormous government spending for welfare funding to ensure public happiness and re-electability. Subsidized programs to ensure no one is left behind are available in all democratic countries. Opportunities to learn and subsequently earn are tremendous. We have abundant options for the smallest commodity as per our willingness to spend. Technological growth has been so exponential that most of us can’t even keep up with it anymore. It has been steady, gentle growth all around. It has been BAU whole of my life and I believe, that has been the case for almost all of us. I have been wrecking my nerve to think of something, anything that came close to such epic an event in my life time. It took months for the city to get back on track. In 1972, two dams near Pune city had crashed suddenly, drowning the entire city. My father’s generation faced his own shares of calamities, economic crisis, national emergencies. He had stories of colonial times, impact of the World War II and immense struggles he had to face to get his Ph.D. My grandfather used to tell me all about natural disasters, famines, epidemics their generation had to face. Well, maybe not! My intension is only to flatter myself, in these times uncertainty and maybe boast to grandkids someday about my literary adventure! That is why I chosen to write this today. Furthermore, great works of arts have been created in times of grave hostility.
